Dr. Christopher G. Williams and Dr. Jeremy Z. Williams are board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons at The Breast Center. They will help you plan a safe return to work in Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, and Denver, Colorado.
How Long Should You Plan to Be Off?
For many women, two to six weeks is a typical recovery window before going back to work. That said, some may need more time.Â
If your job is mostly desk-based, you might return sooner than someone who’s on their feet all day or doing physical tasks. The type of reconstruction matters, too. Implant-based procedures often have a shorter recovery than flap-based surgeries, which involve more healing time.
Swelling, soreness, and fatigue are common in the early weeks, and it’s important not to push through just to get back quickly. Listen to your body and stay in close touch with your surgeon before deciding you’re ready.
Making the Transition Smoother
Heading back to work after surgery takes planning and a little patience. Once you’re cleared by your surgeon, a few steps can help ease you back into your routine more comfortably:
- Wear soft, loose clothing and any support garments recommended.
- Start slow with shorter hours or remote work, if possible.
- Take breaks when you feel tired or sore.
- Avoid lifting or any physical strain your body isn’t ready for.
- Set boundaries with coworkers so expectations are clear about what you can do.
Let’s Talk About Your Goals Early On
Before surgery, let your care team know about your job and what your day-to-day looks like. Dr. Williams and Dr. Williams tailor each surgical and recovery plan to your needs, helping you feel supported long after the procedure itself.
