Your own natural fat cells can serve an important function as a way to pad and add volume beneath the skin. For breast reconstruction specifically, fat grafts can ultimately be useful in several ways, specifically in the final phases of the reconstruction, when some fine-tuning may be recommended.
Fat can be used to:
- Make the volume and appearance of each breast more symmetrical to the other
- Smooth any deformity or irregularity in the contour of the breasts
The great thing about this technique is that it uses your own fat cells. Using liposuction, one of our plastic surgeons will remove fat cells from an area where you have extra, such as your tummy, thighs, hips or back. Then – all in a single procedure – the fat is washed, purified and carefully injected into select areas of the breasts with a syringe.
Because Dr. Jeremy Williams and Dr. Christopher Williams are experienced in this technique, they know how to inject the fat without leaving bumps, lumps or irregularities. This breast-shaping surgery can significantly improve the final result, and fat grafting may be used for either implant-based or autologous tissue-based breast reconstruction.
